Frequently Asked Questions

What is a long-term acute care hospital?

Licensed as an acute care hospital, LTCHs serve patients with complex medical needs requiring long-term hospitalization in an acute setting. Many patients are admitted directly from intensive care units (ICU) and require respiratory/ventilator-dependent care and weaning, wound care, cardiac monitoring and other complex medical conditions.

LTCH programs are designed to medically stabilize and strengthen patients so they can return to their highest level of function. A patient’s average length of stay is between 25 and 30 days.
